How to build a homepage your visitors will love

your homepage

The online world is full of websites. In this mad, but amazing jungle, one wonderful website is yours! (Or will be, if you are still at the planning stage). And you want it to be a place that your ideal clients love to visit.

You have two important goals for your website visitors: Make them want to keep reading and make them want to come back for more until they are ready to work with you.

From the moment they arrive, you want them to looove it!

  • How do you create a place that they love?
    • You talk about what matters to them most related to what you offer
  • How do you make them read more?
    • Let them know what other interesting information you have for them on the other pages of your website
    • Create links to these pages, so that they don’t need to do more than a simple click to get there
  • How do you make them stay in touch?
    • Give them a free gift in exchange for their email address

The moment you have their attention (they have visited, so that is one little victory already), you need to have the right content and strategies in place to make them want to read more, and take action.

What do your website visitors see first? Your homepage!

Most of your website visitors will come to your homepage first, which statistically is the most popular page of any website. So this is what we will focus on here.

Your homepage is the place you would like to get your website visitors hooked from the very first moment. Remember that you have less than 10 seconds to capture your visitor’s attention, and make him/her read more.

So, on your homepage, what do you need?

  1. A few capturing key messages
    • For a message to be capturing, it needs to create an emotional response. You want your visitor to feel “yes, this is exactly my problem”, “yes, this is exactly how I feel”, or “yes, this is exactly what I want” in no uncertain terms.
    • Avoid general messages that have been used before – you want to stand out as different from the rest, being an expert in your specific area and really go straight to the core of your visitor’s/ideal client’s problem.
    • Do you wonder how to find out what your target market’s biggest problem is, what they feel, and what they want? Through market research – learn about it here.
  1. A clear Call to Action
    • On your homepage, you want to be very clear about what you want visitors to do next. Decide what you want to achieve. What do you want from your visitor? Try not to give them more than one option – stick to one main call to action if you can. Usually, you would want them to:
      • Sign up to your mailing list
      • Contact you.
  1. An option to stay in touch with you
    • The option to stay in touch with you is the invitation to sign up for your mailing list. This gives you the opportunity to send them regular emails, bringing value and reminding them about how you can help them. Learn more about sign up boxes here.

Tell me how it goes once you get started, and leave a comment below about your experience.
